There's several Vampires on Military Radio Callsign List but the closest is CC-138 17 Wing/440th Squadron CFB Winnepeg
Nice, but they went southbound possibly to Rickenbacker for better landing weather than Toledo. They also were comparing BLACK TALON to BEAVER. Which is BEAVER Control San Diego on the west coast. So more than likely they are from VX-9 VAMPIRES from CHINA LAKE Test & Evaluation Squadron. I'm hoping they'll be back tomorrow.
STING 31 x 2 flight was really talkative this afternoon. Talking about all the commercial flights they've been doing lately. One flew a 757 charter for the Boston Celtics. Wish I had thought of recording them. Maybe tomorrow if they fly tomorrow? SUA website not showing any activity for Saturday.:(

Doing a little research earlier, I found 309.8 has been used as a VX-9 A/A frequency, so that lends credence to them being VX-9.

180th FW rarely flies on Friday, but I’m wondering with the new year if they’ve changed their schedule from Mon-Thu to Tue-Fri. They didn’t fly this past Monday. In previous years they have had Tue-Fri schedules.

I caught some A-10's from the 107th Fighter Squadron based at Selfridge Air National Guard Base doing training in Southern Ohio today in the Buckeye & Brushcreek MOA's. Aircraft call signs heard were DEMON a flight of five A-10 aircraft and, CHAOS a flight of four ? A-10 aircraft.

Aircraft did some training in the MOA's then hooked up with a KC-135 tanker from the Indiana Air National Guard for some aerial refueling.

Some frequencies used by the A-10's were......
273.250 MHz A-10 Air to Air
343.800 MHz Aerial Refueling
290.500 MHz Indianapolis Center ARTCC Sector 69 New Pike Low

I managed to snap a few pictures of them refueling with the tanker.

First photo.........DEMON Flight of five A-10's refueling on the tanker
Second photo .... CHAOS Flight refueling on the tanker

After the CHAOS flight got done refueling, ATC cleared them to fly direct to the MacDill Air Force Base in Florida.aref2.jpgchaos.jpg

Nice shots! I saw TEJAS21 flight pass just east of Port Clinton southbound this afternoon while working radar approach control at TOL. Saw on their plan that they were going to meet up with INDY51.

Notice they did an Elephant walk as well Tuesday.. Deployment "Snowbird" :)

Now if we can get the Maryland ANG A-10's to do the same..
They have been busy down this way the last 2 weeks hitting various ranges in the area.

I've been following this site for some time now, just want to take a minute to say thank you to everyone who trains over my home. I'm about 3 miles east of Bad Axe and I love to watch the jets while thy're overhead. I turn on the scanner around 9:30 and again at 2:30, I know you're coming. Upside down, sideways, just going at it. At night when your training and shooting off the rounds that light up, it's great. I have the kids come out and watch. When I was a kid growing up, I'd always love it when the jets came in, under the radar at the old Port Austin air base. Those day's are gone, I sure hope it get's approved for you, to come in low again, it was awesome. Maybe my kids will be inspired while watching you,"doing your thing" up there. Keep up the good work and thanks again.

I’m not with the 180th, I’m civilian ATC, but your sentiments are certainly shared by those of us who are at the airport every day. It never gets old having them in the traffic pattern!

Two interesting videos of the tower and U.S. Air Force Air Traffic Controllers managing air-traffic and assist pilots to safely take-off and land at Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, Michigan, during Exercise Emerald Warrior 20.1, Jan. 27, 2020. Emerald Warrior 20.1 provides annual, realistic pre-deployment training encompassing multiple joint operating areas to prepare special operations forces, conventional force enablers, partner nations, and interagency elements to integrate with, and execute full spectrum special operations in an arctic climate, sharpening U.S. forces abilities to operate around the globe.
