It sure would help knowing which manufacturer and model you are talking about, but it certainly looks like that's a quote from a Japanese-written manual (by someone with minal English skills)
In conventional systems, most Land Mobile radios automatically put the radio in MONITOR mode (defeats the CTCSS/CDCSS decoder) to you can comply with FCC rules and ensure the channel is not in use by someone with a different CTCSS/CDCSS.
Interconnect = telephone patch.
External Alarm = A signal to flash lights or sound something (frequently the horn) when your radio receives a valid paging tone signal. OR a logic input to trigger an alarm condition for which the radio sends out a signal to alert the base station or other units.
Transpond = A method to make contact with the radio. Typically, the base station sends out a signal to the mobile, and the mobile sends a signal back (transponds) to confirm that the signal was received.
Call indicator = when the transponding takes place, or when a page is received, a LED lights on the radio to tell you you have a call. This is especially important if you don't have an external alarm.
'programmable per group' implies this is a trunked radio they are talking about.
