Good morning,

The other day, I installed Sentinel on my Surface Pro 7 (Windows 10) and after opening it, I plugged in my SDS100 & 200 and for both, no connection to the computer. Tried USB port with multiple cables and still no dice. Restarted the computer, turned off/on both scanners.

Is this not compatible with this computer for some reason? Or should I be looking at investing in a $100 or so netbook just for programming? .. that would be a bummer.

It's compatible. The SDS just mounts like any other removable media. Sentinel doesn't install a driver for the SDS, it's not needed.

Check your process, you are missing something.

Are the scanners in Mass Storage mode?
Power cycle the scanners. You should see a "USB Cable Detected" and "Mass Storage = E" prompt. If you don't see that then you have a USB connection problem and a possible reason is using a power only USB cable and not a data USB cable.

I am not able to get them into storage mode no matter what I do ... I tried 3-4 different cables, and none of them worked. I know (at least one) of them works because I did it on the laptop I had before. So I am not sure if it's a cable issue or a hardware issue

Do you have a USB flash drive or an external hard drive... If so, plug it into that port and see if it works...
If it does, then it's not the port on the Surface Pro thats the problem...

Turn on the scanner before plugging in the cable. When you plug in the cable, you should get a message to press E to enter USB Mass Storage.

Depending on other factors, the letter could be any letter from D on. C is default for the built in storage on a Windows computer, D is usually the DVD if it is built into the computer. Obviously not possible on the Surface. If you have other USB devices plugged in, the letter could be F or even G.

I ended up getting it to work, I ended up changing some settings in the USB mass storage settings within windows, not sure what I actually did, and then I also plugged in the charging cord to the PC as well, so that worked.

Thanks for the help!

Windows Power Management can cause problems at times...
In the Device Manager I usually uncheck this setting for all USB ports...

If I'm not mistaken, using your charger/power adapter will override that setting if checked...
