These have largely been in hiding since the Berlin Airlift, but if you go through any airport in Central or South America, you'll find they're out there, just waiting to take over again.

Here's a good article about that specific aircraft, and how there's more to it than meets the eye ;) Scroll through all four photos at the top...

WW II aircraft flies again for NAWCAD

Did the 43rd FS move to Langley when Tyndall received the F35?

GOLD 61 is dragging two 421st FS F-35s back to CONUS from RAF Lakenheath as TABOR 31 and TABOR 32.
Tails 17-5281 & 17-5247 and they were up on European boom frequency 294.800, CONUS ones probably 282.000 or 396.200.

Hope this helps,

René.
USAF confirms F-35 drawdown as we logged a couple 421st F-35's Tabor's last Saturday enroute to SJ stop.Maybe more to come.
I just don't understand current USAF deployments sometimes.
If the F-35 deployment was so successful as they say below in article then why are they taking them out of the area?

They are still at Martin State. They are now scheduled to depart this Sunday, October 8th at 1100z.
This should be their routing to Lajes [LPLA]:

Thanks René Had a feeling they were gonna have to wait for the weekend for Reserve tanker crew to
drag across. Wx forecast for Saturday is not good locally here so maybe why Sunday departure.
Most folks don't realize that majority of USAF tanker crews are Reserve/ANG folks who make up better than 60%
of the USAF so that is why most routine Altravs are weekend scheduled events.
