At some point in the not too distant future, Middlesex County Fire Dispatch and all county-wide fire volunteer services will be going digital.

Radio technicians talking on-air in the clear on the TAC 3 frequency(150.725) spoke of the MTR(it's doubtful that they meant the meter), and also of some Harris equipment.

They also spoke of going to the "hub" at some point in the next few days, before "the flip" (where the repeater voting system is). Has any one else heard anything on which system will be used?

They have had many issues north of London, especially around the Lucan/Ailsa Craig/Parkhill areas with poor performance on the system. The MTRs are MTR2000 or 3000 Motorola repeaters, they are commonly used in applications like this. The Harris equipment is likely on the microwave side of things linking all the sites together, and the hub is/was the county works garage in Hyde Park (all the sites are conected by microwave back to there).

Will the county be going digital? Yes, at some point (MotoTRBO). But it's not anytime soon that I'm aware of. Most of the departments have been slowly upgrading their radios to Motorola XPR stuff but there is still a long way to go.

Looking through council reports as far back as 2015, talked about approval to buy dual band radios analog/digital. So, they will be ready for switch over down the road.

Thanks for the update.

Listening tonight for the usual training night radio tests, and I heard Strathroy Fire Dispatch going through the various departments. They were testing the “backup site”, on Tac 1 and Tac 3, testing pagers and voice. They were also training a new dispatcher 😳. Wondering where the backup site is located?
