I am think of getting an SDS200, do others in the area have one of these and what are you picking up? are the Law enforcement channels encrypted?

Sad to say Richmond city, Henrico, chesterfield and Hanover law channels are 100% encryption. However fire is open .

Sorry If this seems like a dumb question, but, new to the digital world.

With my Icom R30 I did a scan of p25 transmissions, wrote about 30 to memory. now when I scan these the radio stops and I believe it is receiving signals, but I do not here anything. are these encrypted channels?

Yes, those are most likely the encrypted LE channels the radio is stopping on but you can not hear anything. Some radios skip/by-pass them and others will stop but you won't hear anything.

Agreed , the ones it’s stopping on is encryption
