Some changes are being rumored from a couple of good sources. Since Friday, all Department of Aviation Police vehicles at Midway have changed their call numbers. Units are now using 3100 series numbers. This falls in line with the rumored consolidation of the Midway and O'Hare Communications systems. O'Hare Dept. of Aviation Police units use 3000 series call signs. Another possible scenario rumored is that the Midway and O'Hare UHF Digital systems are going to be linked via microwave towers. This will create about 16 frequncies and opens up the system to numerous talkgroup possiblities. The hope is all the airlines switch to the system as well so they can easily be contacted with the flip of a switch. This was all rumors until I heard the change of call signs by the Midway Dept. of Aviation Police Friday.
Also at Midway, the Midway Communications Center (M.C.C.) is supposed to take over all communications like the O'Hare Communications Center does. The dispatchers are supposed to go to O'Hare for training. This was supposed to happen by June 1st, but they apparently need to hire or transfer personnel to the M.C.C. during the training. The M.C.C. wil be taking over all dispatching of Police, Fire and Dept. of Aviation when this occurs.
