178th TW
The 178th TW is stationed at Springfield-Beckley. They have been
included on the latest BRAC list to be disbanded by 2010. But the local
politicians are putting up a fight so we'll wait and see.
All their known frequencies can be found on the Clark County page under Ohio.

Yes, I knew these freqs were from Rickenbacker. I scan them while I'm in Columbus and down here at home.
I heard a couple of Ohio Army National Guard helo's on 228.800MHz as they were on a training exercise down near the Scioto Trails State Forest and they also landed at the Greater Portsmouth Regional Airport before heading back North to Rick.
I would love to live closer to the action. I do get to see some aerial refueling ops sometimes. Listening to it on the scanner and watching it going on above you is great action. There is sometimes a couple of helos to fly over to mske for a greater show

Does anyone know when 180th FW is comming back from the sandbox? I sure miss watching and listening to them up here.

You haven't experienced anything until you're driving along US32 through the MOA and an F16 flies right at you a few hundred feet off the road, then cuts in his afterburners and takes off up into the sky with an enormous roar just as he gets to you.
Happened to me this past spring. I almost wrecked the truck when I stuck my head out the window to watch him soar up and away...
The training in progress made for some interesting listening, too.

Serpent's Mound
The best place to go to hear the action and possibly see some of it
is the Serpent's Mound Historical Site in Northern Adams County off of
Ohio SR 73. I haven't been in quite a few years, I know it cost a fee to get in.
They have picnic tables around. Take your milair capaable scanner and a
good pair of binoculars. You may or may not see some of the activity, but I guarantee
you are going to hear it, because the Serpent's Mound sits underneath the middle
of the two MOAs. On clear day you can see for many miles.
Plus they have a little museum there that is really neat.
Take a cooler of sodas and some eats with you, its a long way to a store.

i think anything west of chilicothie and east of cincy on US32 is good to hear and see them.

336.100MHz Aerial Refueling Route AR 455 East / AR 455 West Primary. With Piston flight working aerial refeuling ops on that freq. Did not catch who they were refueling.
Piston is a KC 135 from the 927th aerial refueling wing based at the Selfridge ANGB in Michigan. I forgot to add them to by callsign list I sen the other day.
Also, I was in Chillicothe yesterday and seen a Ohio Army National Guard UH 60 Blackhawk helicopter heading West into the MOA but never heard anything from them.
