I pulled this off the milcom list from 'Ken'...

Mark Meece has an article "Military Monitoring in Maryland", 3 pages, which is an excellent "on scene monitoring" presentation of both ground support (including trunking radio systems) & aero frequencies being used at:
*Aberdeen Proving Grounds
*Phillips Army Airfield
*Martin State Airport (ANGS)
*NAS Patuxent River
*Ft Meade
(Andrews AFB was not covered since it had been covered in the Mar/Apr 2004 edition)

It's in this month's National Communications magazine. 73s Mike

Yes I saw that post also.Never heard of Mark Meece but curious about his article.
Wondering myself if any article info similiar to postings here on RR.
Personally I think we have done excellent job covering this area but who knows.
Just when you think you know it all along comes more info...
Thats what makes this hobby great.Always new changes...

Mark works with the MONIX Cincinnati club (a club of scanner enthusiasts, and a well known one in the field). Very smart guy - I met him briefly at a couple of Winterfests. His articles are usually well written, and I expect no less of this one - altho it will be interesting to see how it jibes with what we know about these areas. That's a club the kind of which I wish CHM was - unfortunately we cover such a large area, it's almost impossible to get any kind of localized meetings together, like they do from time to time.

As for National Communications - I think Books A Million sells their mag (there's an outlet at Arundel Mills Mall) - I've never been all that impressed with it. The ones I've seen had too many obvious errors to make it worthwhile. If you subscribe (I did, for a time - I don't know whether they're still promoting this...) you get a free 1 year subscription to (I think) Betty Bearcat or one of the other online FCC data dumps.

Rgr Mike I think maybe Borders Books may also have but not sure..A lot of weak fluffy scanning magazines like Scanning USA etc.25 pages long with mostly ads.
You are correct in that we cover a large busy area but hopefully maybe we can all get together sometime like maybe in Ocean City MD some Summer weekend.
I'm down that way most of the Summer weekends and would like to meet you and Tin and others interested sometime.

Didn't find the mag at Books A Million over at Arundel Mills mall - perhaps Borders is a better bet. 73s Mike

Received the PDF copy of the March April Issue via email today and took a quick read through it. The issue is 40 PDF pages including advertisements and overall it is well written and laid out professionally.

A quick look at the "Military Monitoring in Maryland" Article revealed a shallow overview of the Military Monitoring possible here in the State, I discovered no information that didn't duplicate what is already available here on RR.com with the exception of one call sign "Motley" for the Martin State A-10s (has anyone here ever heard that call sign?)

Overall the Magazine is a little on the basic side for me, but might be good for those new to the hobby.

Thanks for checking that out for us here!

I was wondering how guy from Cincinatti would have any more info than guys living in this area. Especially with the dedicated listeners that we have here.

I have MOTLEY as well in old callsign database but have never heard used locally.

I stopped by Ham Radio outlet and they stock MT and POP comms and Scanning USA and couple other Ham radio mags.

I did see in parking lot leaving store this Red Ford custom Van that had more antennas than a Secret Service truck but thats another story...Was something else to see!

I think Mark Meece confused his locations with that MOTLEY callsign. It's used by the A-10s up at Barnes in MA. I also seem to remember it from something at the Aberdeen Range a long time ago - perhaps a FAC callword during one of those occasional exercises done there.
