Al Stern posted this today:

Something is definitely going on at Avon Park. . .some exercise or prep for
deployment. It has been one of the busiest three-day periods I have every
heard at Avon. Multiple FACs (JTACs) on the ground, and many many A-10s and
F-16s; tankers too of course. They have been starting early in the morning and
continuing until midnight, with no letup. Comms are wonderful: air-ground FACs,
air-air, MisReps, AAR. . . the whole gamut. Seems like multiple ASOS units
involved too.

I am pretty sure, but not certain that the A-10s are MI-ANG birds; the
callsign and freqs suggest it, but I am still trying to confirm.

Here's your scorecard to follow the action:

When I was looking for tornado coverage last night for central Texas, I happened across an announcement that Dyess is about to have a deployment to Asia. IIRC, that's a B-1 bomber base.

There's a CONUS exercise going on right now.

Trust me...I'm getting Hornets, Hogs, Black/ Seahawks, Pave Low's, all the "T" aircraft across the board....everything you can think of on my ramp this week.

Drinking all my damn fuel too.

With the carrier Ike off the coast and Avon Park Range hot, I'm getting about 100 active freqs a day.

Hum, nothing here but saw an F-15 on approach to San Antone when driving in today.
(Didn't have scanner with me.... but it's the 1st F-15 I've observed down there... Could have been bound for Randolf by the direstion...)

Exciting? Wait until you hear an F-16 declare an "In Flight Emergency"(No drill BTW) for a bird strike in the intake at take-off.

Or,a B-1 that had hung ordinance, that did not release over the range, declaring emergency, returning to base.

Or, a few months ago,I listened to a flight of three F-16's (TUL ANG) that simultaneously got hit by lightning while over the Eureka MOA.
- Keep listening, you'll never know what you'll hear!

Heard mid air collision between two F-16s. One crashed (pilot ejected and was ok) and the other lost a wingtip and IFEd home. Along with another lawn darting episode which I caught which was was right up there in terms of intense. An F-16 flame out and emergency civvy airport divert was pretty exciting too.

Never know what you will hear.
