Hi to all, I'm new here.
My name's Sergio and I'm from Italy. I'm returned "online" with my kenwood r-5000 from 3 days. My scanner has had along period of silence (4 years), now I have rebuild a 100m longwire antenna, I have only to finish the balun 9:1.
I have try to do a few dx on HF military frequencies like USAF GHFS in this days, but I have see that the military activity is very low. A my friend have tell me that this low activity on HF is because now a lot of communications are via SATCOM. Is true this?

Where I can find a good update frequencies list of military/civil air stations on web?

Best Wishes
Sergio

Hello Sergio - yes, propagation isn't nearly what it was a few years back, so hearing US military stations from Italy is going to be a challenge. Of course, with the Hurricane that just happened, there are numerous Coast Guard and other federal agencies involved, and the US Military - specifically the Air Force - is being called in to help. The HF-GCS - old name GHFS - freqs above are still good, but there are numerous others to check.
To help get you started, go to the WorldWide Utility News club website (it's on the Utility Monitoring Wiki at the bottom of the page). There you can download the latest newsletters free to the public.
You can get a real good idea of activity using this method.
The Wiki is available to anyone; there's a link that says 'RR Wiki' in the toolbar at the top of the screen. Check the other threads in this forum for hurricane related traffic.
However, there's a club that is local to you, and probably a much better source of information as to what is being heard in Italy....

Hi Sergio!

I was stationed in Vicenza while in the Army in the mid 1980's, and enjoyed good dx while there. I had such a great time there, and would enjoy returning for a visit.

Used a Icom R70 with a random long wire around my apartment, worked pretty well. Don't have any new frequencies, although much activity here due to the flood.

I am outside of Pittsburgh.

Good DX,

Ed

Hi to all again,
tanx for update wun list link.
I live near Pisa airport, here there's the 46^ Brigata Aerea home of C-130J and G-222 (still for little time because G-222 will be replaced from C-27J Spartan) of AMI (Aeronautica Militare Italiana). The 46^ BA have a specific HF frequency for to talk with his aircrafts in the world, the frequency is 6.748 Khz. The callsign of the station is "46 Charlie", the callsigns of the aircrafts are (I is for "India"):

I2101-I2155 - G222

I1988-I2001 - C130J

Best Wishes,
Sergio
