Hi Group,

I'm looking for a scanner of good qualitiy that will receive the Military Air Freqs.

Right Now I use a Radio Shack Pro 29 and Pro 2050, and discone antenna @ 30 feet.

Also, if anyone would like to chime in, what are some common Aviation Freqs for the Military and how active are they?

Thanks,
RadioWaves

Pro-97 is cheap for handheld. Used to have a Pro-2045 for base/mobile and it was great but conventional only.

The Pro-97/2055 does a very good job on both civilian and UHF military air frequencies. If you go to the Wiki here, it has links to several aircraft related monitoring sites. The database here has aircraft frequencies for some areas as well. Since you didn't put your location in your profile, it's hard to give you "active" frequencies since they vary in different parts of the country.

For a SCANNER, The Uniden BC-895 or the Pro2045 is the only two radios to have. They are fast and they are Clean and free of too many birdies in the 225-400 range. I have found that the Pro97 and 2055 are ridden with intermod and are very poor when put in dense RF areas. The BC895 will really amaze you. It has very fast scan speed and the audio is amazing.
Good luck!

The 895 has a serious flaw in that it cannot hear the 138-144 mhz band in AM mode. This is where a lot of ANG units can be found. Otherwise, yes, the 895 is a very good UHF milair scanner. And when used with RadioMax, it's even a bit better, since it allows you to vastly expand the number of channels that you can scan.
