Millstone Power Plant Drill - NO EMERGENCY, DRILL ONLY
The following is a message from the Dominion Millstone nuclear power facility regarding a rehearsal drill taking place on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014. The Waterford Police and surrounding Police, Fire, and EMS will all be involved in this drill to make our community more prepared in the event of an emergency.
***NO EMERGENCY, DRILL ONLY***
Dear Neighbor,
Millstone Power Station, the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), and the communities surrounding Millstone have developed comprehensive plans for responding to nuclear power plant emergencies. The goal is to ensure that we have procedures in place for protecting the health and the safety of the public. Every two years, our emergency plans are evaluated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
This year, in addition to an evaluation of the plans for responding to an emergency, FEMA and the NRC will be looking at the station’s ability to simultaneously respond to a hostile action security event at Millstone. We will be holding a rehearsal drill on Tuesday, August 5, and an evaluated exercise on Tuesday, September 9.
During both the rehearsal and the exercise, there is likely to be an unusual number of law enforcement, fire, and medical service vehicles coming and going from the site and the towns of Waterford and East Lyme. These two towns will also be stationing officers at designated roadway locations as part of the drill. I wanted to give you a heads-up so that you are not concerned if you see the increased level of activity responding to the Millstone Drill on those days.
If you have any questions about the drill or the exercise, feel free to contact me.
