I have four scanners dedicated to milair. Some days traffic is almost non-stop. I can out on my porch in the morning with my cup of coffee and my AOR8200 and sit and watch and listen to the planes from Randolph AFB. All of the airspace around here between 5,000 ft and 23,000 is restricted to military planes. It is amazing to hear one say on the count of 3 break left and then see a pair of planes make a left turn. One morning I was listening and hear one plane call out his call sign to the plane flying upside down over Sequin. The upside down plane answered and they paired up to practice precision flying. I hear a lot of military cargo planes going into and out of Kelly Field. Many days there are 40 or 50 planes up and they use a lot of different frequencies.

The AOR8200 is by far the best handheld to pick up milair.

he's interested in MILSATs though. It just happens that Donald, owner of milaircomms likes to listen to them and he has some info on his site related to monitoring satellite comms.
