Since they are located in Umatilla Co, are they on their own radio wise? I looked at their website and it lists "5 dispatchers" so I would guess they elected not to merge onto the TRS. (still VHF?) Do the other cities not in the Umatilla Trunked database like Weston/Athena do the same or contract with the county for police/911?

Umatilla CO

Milton-Freewater, Hermiston and Umatilla Tribal each have there own dispatch centers. Everyone else is dispatched by City/County Dispatch aka Umatilla County Sheriffs Office.

MiltonFreewater, Weston, Athena, and Tribal are not on the trunked system. There is no tower close to MiltonFreewater. I believe that all the agencies are on VHF but I'm not sure if tribal is or not. From what I was told, at the time when they started to put the trunked system up, that MiltonFreewater didnt want in on it, now they do and guess what... no money....

ps: Umatilla City Police does have one dispatcher, the office person, that dispatches during business hours, I think 0900-1700hrs Monday-Friday, I think..

Any questions, ASK.

The state has a list of departments with full and part time dispatch centers. Its really an interesting read given that departments that don't integrate into a single county 911 answering point lose the federal funding to operate their systems. http://egov.oregon.gov/OOHS/OEM/docs/technology/psap_directory.pdf ..

I'm really surprised that so many eastern Oregon departments maintain their own centers. The only center that never surprised me that they operate independently is Lake Oswego, who also dispatches for West Linn and Milwaukie. They can easily afford it with the tax base they operate on.
