I think the uhf system sounds pretty good ... was listening to 460.075 almost all day today, and was pretty impressed with the audio vs. what i'm used to here in dane co. (vhf) (excluding the city trunked system)
just my two cents,
Lars

The old MPD system is still solid as a brick and generally sounds excellent. Nothing beats a well designed and implemented "old school" Micor system. My contact within MPD retired, so I'm not privvy to much anymore but from what I saw of it, the /\/\ system is old but bulletproof.

It's a shame to see it go.

I get a good signal up in West Bend with the current system. I don't understand why they need to put themselves on an island with an Opensky system. Nice interop.

Stateboy - do you have a complete list of MPD UHF frequencies currently in use? Now that I have a stationary UHF yagi pointing 172 degrees from our location 142 miles north-northwest of Milw, I thought that I'd just do a test and change the coax from the TK-863G over to the scanner and see if the antenna can pick their signals out of the mix from that distance. Also, since I am no where near Milw. and have no first hand info, what UHF simulcast frequencies is the County using down there if any? If they are using only the 800 stuff, that system can't even be heard from Fond du Lac, as I was told, and I'm 83 miles north-northwest of there yet. Thanks.

Milwaukee County has ZERO voice traffic on UHF. I believe the siren telemetry is still on the old 453.xxx "F5" that was used by MCEM.

I was just up in Milwaukee last weekend and all the existing UHF repeaters were still squawking. Check any of the current MPD listings and you'll find what you need.

453.375 Pl 136.5 is Milwaukee Co Emergency Management UHF. It is siren activation and polling as well they "tone" out alert recievers for the Emergency Managment zones in the County. All of the other County operations are on the trunked system except Mitchell International Airport Operations and Crash Fire are still on VHF and they should be moving in the not to distant future the farthest North I have gotten the Milwaukee Co system is the North Sheboygan Co Line and Northwest is about Lomira in Dodge Co.

I thought was being done completely (or simulcast) on 800 so everyone could get rid of the UHF radios...?

I haven't heard it on 800 yet,and I always wonder why it is still on UHF.
Maybe because City of Milwaukee Fire has no 800 radio in dispatch?????

They don't have the UHF radios, only a console or two. The only voice traffic on 453.375 is one way announcments that are recieved on "plectron" recevers at various dispatch centers in the county. I believe that hospitals as well as schools/dist have them as well. It's kind of like the way the NWS uses SAME for weather radios but this is much more specific to govt operations.
All two way voice for Emermgency Management is on the TRS

Thank you for all your responses.

Another question:

What would be a good restaurant to eat "authentic" Milwaukee food?
Meaning maybe German or something to that effect.

Thanks again
