Can anyone confirm Milwaukee County's digital TRS is on the air? I can receive the analog TRS system, but nothing on the five frequency digital system.

Milwaukee County's new digital TRS is still in the testing stage. Two Police Departments have been reported to be using the system.

I have heard it used three times myself. I don;t know why it takes so long to get these new systems going. It may be a wait to receive all the new radios needed for all the users on the system.

The people I did hear sounded really good on my BCD396T used as a base scanner.

Bayside PD is on this system? All I hear on these frequencies is white noise.

Is possible they are testing with low power or from a single transmitter site?

Where do you listen from, and what type of scanner are you using for this 9600 P25 system?

I have no problem with my BCD396T. I receive the system with a full five bars on the signal meter. I live in the City of Franklin not far from Milwaukee.

Northeast Ozaukee County. I'm using a BC796. I can clearly hear the Milwaukee County analog system and the 440th digital system. I can also hear the Greenfield system with some interference.

izz,

Using RadioReference's search Wisconsin FCC Licenses by frequency for 868.2125, it shows that the system has six tower sites:
. 1. Oak Creek [WPUE217]
. 2. Franklin [WNW1428]
. 3. Wauwatosa [WNW1428]
. 4. Brown Deer [WNW1428]
. 5. Greenfield [WPUE217]
. 6. Milwaukee [WNW1428]

The two towers close to me are the Oak Creek and Franklin locations. I can hear what you hear--along with the 440th digital system (I'm not too far from the airport.), but for some reason, I don't get the Ozaukee County TRS. Conditions have to be really good for me to pick that up.

Maybe others around the area can tell us how they receive the new Milwaukee P25 system. The analog system has seven tower sites. Maybe more tower sites will be added later after the system gets off the ground more. Let's see what happens with this.

Right now its just a test and chit chat system,Notice they pick the site in a spot where all the PD's recently got brand new P25 radios.
I heard it could take at least 5 years before everybody goes digital because other depts are in no rush to spend a whole lot of money for new radios

Wow! This is bad news for us digital scanner owners around the Milwaukee area. The 440th Air National Guard is due to leave in two years or less, and this new system will take a long time to get more TGID's on it. This isn't good news for a $500.00 plus scanner investment.

However, I know many people on the Scan-Wis Group hate the word "digital" from my posts about the New P25 system and will be happy to hear this. They don't want to purchase a digital scanner. but whatever makes you happy is all that counts.

Sounds good to me.

In all likelihood Washington County's new system will be digital and Ozaukee County has started its radio system upgrade.

Joel, you will be noticing a stronger signal in the future from Ozaukee County, improved coverage is one of the main reasons for the upgrade.

Thanks for the tip, izzy, about Washington and Ozaukee County. It will be good to hear the Ozaukee County TRS because of all the 1-Calls used on this system.

Hey IZZ,

any specifics as to how they are going to improve coverage on the Ozaukee Co. system? Sounds like a good investment as signal to the south is very weak.

In the northeast part of county where I'm located, two amplifiers, one pointed north and one pointed south were installed at Harrington Beach State Park. Before the amplifiers were installed I would get 3 or 4 bars on my BC796 that was connected to an outside antenna, now I get a solid 6 bars.

The Mee-Kwon Park tower in Mequon will be modified to increase coverage to the southeast and southwest parts of the county where the signal is now weak.

Maybe I can actually hear the OZSO system at work when that happens. The 780 barely hears it, and that's with with an antenna out on the tower that has a clear look up into Oz. They don't have a tower out in the SW corner of the county, do they?

This will be cool for me too,I only get one bar on the 780 if I am lucky.
I don't think they have a SW tower because 2 summers ago I heard Mequon PD squads complaining their radios would not work in a lot of spots out that way.

There is only one tower in the southern part of the county.

They are also working on coverage problems in the Newburg area, western Ozaukee County.
