Ordered my new scanner from scanner master. I spent the day watching youtube on how to program the BCD536HP. I hope I am not in over my head.

While you are waiting for your scanner, you can read through these resources here:

Easier to Read BCD436/536HP Digital Scanner Manual

BCDX36HP Sentinel Software Manual

And download the Sentinel Software here to get your programming started:

I see that the Uniden BCD536HP is currently on sale at Scanner Master for $499.95 PLUS shipping charges (which cost an additional $14.21 for UPS Ground to my zip code in Massachusetts): Uniden Bearcat BCD536HP Police Scanner | ScannerMaster.com.

For those who might be interested Ham Radio Outlet also has the BCD536HP currently on sale for the same $499.95 price until 04-30-2018 but that HRO price includes FREE shipping: https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-012897.

Welcome to the 536HP "owners club"! Having just bought mine almost two months ago, I can tell you that there is a learning curve to its operation. Owning its predecessor, the 996xt, helped me to some degree. I would just tell you to take it slow, and only focus on learning what you need to know to do what you want it to. The more advanced features can be learned in time. On this forum, the search function will be your friend. Most questions you'll have, have already been asked before. Good luck with your 536! It's a great scanner!

I ordered mine from HRO and with standard (free) shipping I had it in two days, plus no taxes for me in Mass.

Price

I also found the scanner at a lower price on other sites, however the folks at scanner master have helped me with scanner questions in the past. So the few dollars I would have saved was not a player to me.

You're always in over your head right after you jump in the water but then you surface and start to swim.
I bought a 536 last December and it's been quite the learning experience but worth all the work. The old military maxim "RTFM" is to live by and, as others here have so wisely said, take it slow, do a little at a time and soon you will be amazed as I was.at what this unit is capable of. There were times I wanted to toss mine in the mulcher but after taking a break and trying again, it started making sense a bit at a time. Took it on a road trip from Reno to Seattle last week with a GPS connected and it was awesome! Once you get comfortable with the software, I think you're going to find this to be a great unit. Good luck and let us know how you're making out when you get a chance!
