• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I pulled out my laptop to program a Minitor 5 and it won't read it. I have tried 5 or 6 different pagers from the stock I have with the same results. (yes we have a pile of 5's we're still using) I have checked COM ports. Everything. Last pager I tried was one I have programmed before. Same result. I am at a loss. We got the programming cradle included with some used pagers the county bought a few years ago. I downloaded the software and used YouTube to learn the process. (P & W is the bomb! Ordered our 6 cradle from them!) Things have been fine until now. Any suggestions are appreciated.

The problem could be with the computer, as opposed to the pager itself.

I had that problem (and sometimes still do) and, like most computer problems, I don't really remember how I fixed it. But I think the last time it happened, I had to find and reload the driver. Sometimes changes to the computer (a simple, unrelated, download, etc) affects or corrupts the drivers for all this radio stuff.

Sorry I can't help you more. I know it's very frustrating.

-Is it an OEM Motorola cradle?
-What kind of cable are you using between the cradle and PC?
-The power supply going into the cradle is confirmed working?

Yes.
USB A to Serial adapter to the original serial cable to the cradle
Yes.

I have ordered an aftermarket USB A cable to plug directly into the cradle. Eliminate the serial driver that I believe is causing the issue. My laptop updated recently and I suspect it overwrote the driver I had been using. New cable will will be here tomorrow.

I never had luck with serial adapters. I had to get a laptop running older OS with a serial comm port in order to get it to work right. If you have a serial port, try that, the pinout for the cable is around somewhere

We only use FTDI USB to RS232, no issues with with them.

I called and talked with P & W this morning. I am going to pull out an old windows XP laptop and try that. It is definitely a driver issue.
