If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Our fire department uses Minitor 5 pagers.

I am curious if anyone knows how to program the pager so that it does not have that loud squelch at the end of every transmission. Or is this even possible? It would be nice if you could program PL tones into the pagers to help solve this issue.

Thanks!

They definitely can- my M-V doesn't squelch after a page is received, and it doesn't have a PL tone installed.

Need to talk with your programming folks.

I do the programming but am not an expert on it by any means. Our pagers are programmed to revert.

That loud squelch is the recorder basically holding the reset button so it doesn't miss any traffic within the specified time. It records in 8 second blocks, so you will have to play with the settings depending on how your dispatch center works to figure out a reset time that doesn't cut off recordings. You can also manually hit the reset button and it will stop the noise.

Here's what I set them to for our agencies; these settings are under the "Model Options" tab in the PPS software.

Stored Voice Function: Dynamic

Reset Function: Delayed N (9.6 Sec)

Squelch Level: 3

***Note*** By using the "Delayed N" option, the pager will activate upon receiving the tones, monitor/record the dispatch and then after the 9.6 second timeout, it will revert back to standby mode.

I think you should try the various options under the "Stored Voice Function" & "Reset Function" and see what works best for your agency. Those are the two options which control the open squelch upon dispatch.

Good luck and let us know what works for you!

Regards,

Jerry

Thanks for all the replies.

To be a little more specific I am interested in getting the short squelch that takes place after every transmission while in the monitor mode. For example most radios will continue to hold the carrier tone after it stops receiving a signal to prevent the squelch that I am experiencing on my pager. It may be a setting that needs to be adjusted within our repeater system, bit the pager itself.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Eliminating the normal squelch tail requires circuitry that the Minitor does not have and is unlikely to acquire. You just gotta learn to live with it. There's a whole generation or two of us that grew up and worked our entire careers with two-way radio systems that didn't block the squelch tail. It's music to our ears....
