To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

I have a Minitor II. It has 2 frequencies which are both the same. I have 3 reeds in it.

This is what I am trying to do..

For the duty bell I want it to go off for A-B and A-C (It does that fine)

Channel 1 is open for everything. (It does that fine)

Here is the part I am having trouble with. I want Channel 2 to go off for only A-B (For Night Use)

Is this possible? If so how can I change this?

Thanks

Some more info on the pager would help. Model # would help, will allow to determine the options for the pager. Not sure if the same freq on both channels may be problem. Won't know until you give more info.

Not possible with the pager you have. You need a programmable pager to do on/off duty. I'm not sure if the III's and IV's will do it, but the Minitor V's definitely will.

Yes, it's possible to have On/Off Duty with the Minitor II. You actually have a single frequency pager if they are "both the same", only one crystal is installed (don't be fooled by the 1 and 2 on the label).

You need to close jumpers 3A1 and 3B1 on the back of the larger circuit board for what you want to work. Then the pager will operate as follows:

Bell - A-B, A-C silent until alerted

1 - A-B, A-C monitor

2 - A-B silent until alerted

Depends on the model. Selective call models can do on/off duty. Your statement is false.

I had someone modify the jumpers today. It works just as I need it to now. So this is possible to do.

Chauffer6, thanks for the answer. I saw this after he already modified it. He had the service manuals from Motorola and he figured it out. Anyone with a Minitor II that needs the pager to work like that it can be done just find someone at a radio shop who knows what they are doing and how to solder and it should work.

Agreed I had a 2 that did just that.

Glad to hear you got it working as you wanted! The Minitor II pagers were the best Motorola ever made, so take good care of that thing!

On/Off Duty disables the tone filter in the C slot when the function switch is in the third position, regardless of what tone set the pager is setup for.

Minitor II - another question

I recently moved to Lehigh County, PA from overseas. I got my hands on a Motorola II that does not have the right frequency for Lehigh County. I would like to have 154.175 on the pager.

I'm not familiar with Minitor II's (in NZL we didn't use them). Can someone tell me how I can go about getting this done?

THANKS!

It would probably be cheaper to buy a Minitor that is computer programmable

Really? You're going to find a III/IV in really good shape (remembering that they were junk brand new out of the box) for under $40? I doubt it very much. Then you still have to either buy the programming equipment yourself, or pay someone to program it for you. Now you're up around $100 for a halfway decent used unit, which given the poor quality of the III/IV series, might crap out at any time.

Get in touch with Gerry Oliver of G&G Communications in upstate NY...he will change out the crystal for $33. If you need tone filters, he can supply those also, or you can search for the correct ones on eBay. If you only intend to use the pager as an open monitor, and don't care about it alerting for a specific agency, then the change of frequency crystal is all you need done to it.

Thanks VERY much. That's EXACTLY the answer I needed.

Trying to buy a programmable Minitor (III, IV or V) can't be done for less than $150. Then there is the expense of programming.

I already have a Minitor II, so buying a frequency crystal for $10 to $20 is MUCH cheaper.
