Minitor IV/ Broken Case

My Motorola Minitor IV pager case recently cracked. I checked with our radio dealer and he said that Motorola did not replace these cases because the pagers are manufactured to be intrinsically safe and a replacing the case could do away with this rating.

Has anybody had this experience or have any ideas on what to do?

It has to be sent back to Motorola. The cases are not available to dealers.
