• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello,

I hate to bring up such outdated tech, but I cant seem to find any answers via google. I have recently started volunteering at a local emergency services department in western PA and I was issued a minitor iv(4) pager. Long story short, I dont have much of a clue what I'm doing- most of the members carry alpha pagers now and tell me just to purcahse my own. Either way, it is programmed to our local frequency and I read the manual but some things seem to not act properly. For example, Ill set it to scan all radio traffic on the channel and only about 1/4 of the calls will come through (there is an online site i can track them from). Also, one of my options is set to just monitor and alert me for my station, but occassionally I will get dispatches from other stations (they dont alert but they sound) or it will just skip a page alltogether. When it is in the charging cradle it will alert but not play the associated voice message. Is this stuff normal?

Also, sorry if I posted this to the wrong section, it seemed like the most fitting option.
Thanks!

It is really hard to tell as the pager can be programmed to a variety of different settings, and not knowing the system and how it functions can make it difficult to troubleshoot. It almost sounds as though you are in range of some TX sites and not others... again, hard to tell without knowing the system.

Some of the transmissions may not be strong enough to unmute the speaker, since IIRC the Minitor IV is not capable of narrowband, therefore it's receiving a "quieter" signal than if it were narrowbanded...hopefully I'm on the right track here, but it just seems to me like if it's wideband and the transmissions are narrowband and not necessarily too strong in a rural area they might not open up the speaker.

Like 12dbsinad said there are also so many settings that could affect how it acts, the Minitors are very customizable.
