• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello, I got a minitor 5 the other day and when I'm charging it, it makes a really high pitched squealing noise. I believe it's coming from the charger itself. Is this normal? Or is there something wrong?

I would say it's normal as all of ours do it. Annoying but normal.

Motorola had a recall on these charges a few years back. Also, it depends on the revision codeplug that is in you're pager. The latest codeplugs and chargers are unaffected by some of these issues. I would contact your radio vendor; depending on how long you've had it, they should be able to either swap it out or have your pager sent into the depot for a codeplug revision...

Mine has a high pitched tone when charging, but doesn't seem to hurt anything. ;)

Correct, they will mostly likely not, especially since the recall was back in 2008. What I'd suggest, if your pager is still under warranty, is to send it in, along with the charger and explain the issue. They will at a minimum, update the pagers code plug to the latest revision and quite possibly swap out the charger since they will be able to duplicate the issue. When you explain the situation, be VERY specific...

How can I determine the warenty status? I have no idea when it was purchased by the old owner.

You can simple call Motorola Pager Repair Depot; if it's not under warranty, I believe their flat rate repair fee is $78. It's the only place I'd consider for pager repair of the Minitor V's.

Motorola Customer Care:
Phone number: 1-800-814-0601

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a new charger for less than that $78? And I have a programming dock, would i be able to update it with that and the software?

You CANNOT update the codeplug yourself; this can only be done at the depot as this process is different than their radios.

The model number of the charger you want is RLN5869C or later.

The codeplug revision of the pager should be at least: 0.049; pager firmware version: 3.00

Have the above will correct the problem...

Buy a new battery for $14 and charger for $34 and be done with it.Problem will go away. Mine and 45 others did. The whine was charger trying to fast charge the battery so quickly it emits a noise.
If the charger is the bigger Amplified base and the part number ends is A or B get rid of it.Only the C versions work correctly. Wall plugs for them are ok though.
