• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

ok, so i saw the trhead on the minitor II for this subject, but what about the minitor v? i know i would need a 160-174 pager, but could it be done fairly easily with the software for a normal vhf split?

i know, i know....just get a weather monitor. it does me no good at all when im not at home. this would be easier to carry around, and easier to know whats going on when im out and about.

If you have the right frequency split, it would just take about a minute in the programming cradle to program in the weather frequency.

If you have a V and are already using it for fire or ems, you'll need a two channel model to add in the NOAA weather.

III's and IV's will work also fine for this and I don't believe the NOAA channels are affected by the narrowband mandate.

Band is set by the hardware. Changing the programming and keeping the same (wrong boards) will cause issues.

translation: don't do it.

Another choice would be to just have NOAA severe weather updates sent to your cell phone, something that can be done in minutes.

I don't know about a Minitor V, but I did some hex editing with the Minitor III software and was able to get it down to our local repeater at 146.865, I would imagine the same would apply going to 162.XXX, not that far; Moto gear is usually good a few Mhz out of its bandsplit usually without sacrificing performance drastically. There is a write up on getting to Engineer Mode on Batboard, look it up. I don't have a codeplug to try, so I do not know if it works.

It -will- work, but like others said it probably will cause issues..

The minitor series has predetermined frequency sets for a reason. That set needs to match the internal antenna's resonance, to achieve maximum sensitivity. These things are (supposed to be) good, and work every time.
