• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Had some pagers narrowbanded. When the tones drop, its fine. When dispatch talks all you can hear is an ugly loud squeel when the volume is turned up. Some of them do it and some don't. Anybody know what could cause the loud noise?

Your dispatch transmitter hasn't been narrowbanded yet, we had that same problem here until the county actually changed to narrowband modulation. Test it yourself with a portable radio programmed for both wide & narrow, you'll see the difference first hand.

Microphonics within the pager itself. Common problem when switching them to narrow. Send them in for repair.

Last pager I sent in was $78 flat rate. We have a MOL account so I can't tell you if that is the rate they'd charge someone who doesn't have an account.

Call Customer Service. They'll tell you. 800-814-0601

I've read in other posts that there is a foam pad between the housing and speaker that needs replaced and that's the only fix. Is that true?

Mind telling us where you read that? I don't recall any mention of that here in the Motorola forum or over on the batboard? I've never heard this, and find it difficult to believe.

I agree with W2GLD. Try putting the affected pagers back into wideband mode and see if that solves the problem. If the pagers still alert properly and the squealing stops, then you're golden.

Saratoga County, New York had this exact problem. They run a VHF conventional narrowband simulcast alerting system using 5 transmitter sites. A number of Fire and EMS agencies throughout the county experienced this identical problem with a great number of their Minitor V's.

They returned the pagers to wideband and the problem went away. I've never heard if they determined a cause for the problem, but given the simple fix, it probably doesn't matter.

I don't recall the website. There wasn't a great deal of info on it. I didn't know if anyone else had head anything about it. I'll try and switch one back to wide and see what happens. Do the pagers have to be narrowbanded on vhf band 137-174?

We have been having audio quality issues, since going over to fives.

About half of our pagers are new, and they all have this issue.

Don't you just love the quality of the Motorola Minitor pagers? You can't spend more money for radio equipment any place else in the world and get ignored on the problems that crop up.

Get in the face of your Motorola sales rep politely explaining what a piece of crap they have sold you with the Minitor V pagers. Boot his car for illegal parking, running stop lights, speeding and the parking too far form the curb. Tow the car for parking illegally. Maybe they will get the hint that their sloppy customer care will not be tolerated.

Putting the pagers back in wideband is not fixing the problem. It sort of hides the problem and makes the audio output low. Plus your never going to be sure the pager will alert.

Be aware that real low tones or real high pager alerting tones will not work well on narrow band. Check with your radio shop to see if you fall into this problem.
