• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've been reading everything i can find relating to firmware updates for the Minitor VI but i still have a few unanswered questions. I found several posts talking about the weak signal of the VI and a possible firmware release that addresses this issue but i couldn't find any for solid yes or no answers. Was there ever a firmware release addressing this and if so did anyone notice a improvement when receiving a signal? Also when upgrading the firmware do you have to flash every firmware release or can you just flash the latest release to obtain all previous firmware improvements?

What band pager are you referring to? I have found VHF work decent, UHF is terrible. Still is terrible to this day, at least in my experience. I am not sure a firmware update will be able to address this problem as it may be more of a hardware issue.

I've had a batch of newer units (UHF) go thru my hands with still the same poor RX. There has been some decode and squelch updates with the firmware but nothing with the receiver (sensitivity). It's simply more than likely cannot be done via firmware and would require a re-design. However I wouldn't hold your breath.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, I'll attempt to update the firmware, worse case scenario nothing changes. Do I need to do a update for each release of the firmware or can I just use the latest release?

Some time ago our Dept complained of the same issues of poor RX on a UHF unit. After speaking with a engineer (when you have over 150 units you are going return they do call) and said that the units could be sent back 10 or 20 at a time for a realignment closer to our primary channel which was in the 453 region. So I would say it's not a firmware issue.
