To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

So i placed an order for a new minitor 6 yesterday. My job just got some in the other week and i am pretty impressed with how they are. Now my question is why would you need a UL version? Is that more for people that work in say in example, power plant, gas plant etc?

I tested a watchdog and i liked them, had to send it back for bad receiving issues. They say they are coming out with a new model next year which is not much of a difference.

Intrinsic safety (IS) is a protection technique for safe operation of electrical equipment in hazardous areas by limiting the energy available for ignition.

Required for HazMat teams and special incident units... As a firefighter, it's all I would buy, especially if you carry it on your person while investigating natural gas leaks, fumes, etc. You're two-way radios should also meet this standard, if they don't; do not put yourself in harms way as one day it will surely bite you in the ***. I just ordered one today as well, IS model of coarse. Keep in mind, you MUST use all IS Approved accessories with this pager in order to retain it's rating, and NEVER open the case up; it MUST go back to Motorola for service, or an authorized service center that can certify it's seal with vacuum pressure.

If you don't take you're pager with you on calls, then by all means save the $50; but my life is well worth the extra $50 for the IS model and the extra $2.00 per battery...

New Minitor VI w/ issues

Hey guys not sure if this the correct place to put this new post. So i received the new minitor vi last week. The design is pretty nice. The only thing i noticed with the unit is that when i have it on silent revert N after the call is done recording and i go back and play it, there is the continuous pulsating popping noise after the carrier is dropped. I have the revert N set on 30 seconds because my county sometimes hits the MDT's and Alpha pagers first before speaking. I was on silent scan which i have to since we operate on 2 different counties. Any idea what may be causing this? I spoke to motorola and they are sending me a pager from the factory and im sending this one back. They stated that it is normal to here a "Whip Tone"??? Any idea what that is? Thanks everyone!

I agree W2GLD i went ahead and got the non UL version. Im mostly on the ambulance 80 hours a week anyway. If we get any fire calls i just leave the pager behind it knocks off the risk of me losing it. We have radios we carry, as we all should for evac tones, command and such.
