08/12/2004 - STATE PATROL BIRTHDAY
Associated Press
The Minnesota State Patrol is celebrating its 75th anniversary. A number of retired state patrol officers and officials gathered today to celebrate, including State Patrol Chief Colonel Ann Beers, who says it was a very small organization at the beginning with only 9 troopers on the payroll. Colonel Beers says there were no radios in the cars. She says the troopers would drive from town to town and look for a light on a telephone pole to see if there was a call pending. The patrol now has about 400 troopers.
