• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm replacing some of the radios I have controlled through a MIP 5000 console. My area has recently gone P25 phase II from VHF analog. I currently have several CDM 1250s and I'm replacing them with APX 1500s.

My question is can I reuse the gateways or do I need to use digital gateways? I believe I have tone gateways currently.

I know that the digital gateways are required with APX7500 mobiles if you want PTT ID's to display on your console in P25 systems. You cannot get the ID's with your current gateways.

I've used them with XPR5580's and the APX Consolettes with wireline control. You'll have limited functionality with your current tone gateways.

I want PTT IDs because right now all the P25 mobiles and portables on the new system display the received ID on the screen when a call is received. I want the same functionality on the console.

I'm using APX 1500s since I only need a single band and two of the radios will only be programmed with a single talkgroup so I don't need anything fancy.

As N1GTL alluded too, I am pretty sure you will need Digital gateways and APX7500's to get what you wanting.

Do not believe the 1500's will work.

So it turns out I have a mix of local and tone gateways. Would the APX 1500s have basic functionality (TX/RX change talkground) with the local gateways or would I need tone or digital?

I don't need PTT IDs anymore.

So my MIP5000 currently is controlling two CDM 1250s and a MTR2000. The CDMs use local gateways and the MTR2000 uses a tone gateway.

Would I be able to control an APX 1500 in P25 phase II using a local gateway?
