I am running a new SDS 100-finally getting the hang of it. Been out of the scanner thing for quite a while. Does MIRS still exist in Morris County, NJ, or is it renamed?

Also, I did not get any add-ons- am I missing something by not purchasing them around here?

Welcome back! And solid choice with the SDS.

It is still called MIRS(Morris Interoperability Radio System).

Depends what you want to listen to.

If you want to listen to everything in Morris County, you’ll be out of luck with Pequannock and Kinnelon. They are both on DMR, with RAS(Restricted Access System).

Denville PD are on NXDN.

Other than that, at least the immediate area, you’ll be ok.

There are only a few EDACS systems left in the whole of NJ. Those will eventually be phased out, as EDACS is end of life.

For starters, I think you’re pretty well off.

First - MIRS was a special set of talkgroups on the old Type-II system for interop between towns & agencies. It was NEVER the name of the entire TRS, neither then (or now).

Second - the latest FW updates to the SDS have made major improvements to how it handles RAS on DMR. As long has he has the option unlocked for his SDS, he should be able to receive them (and Denville if he buys the NXDN unlock).

Sorry to be pedantic... ;)

My bad on that Scott. I thought that was the name. Thanks for the clarification.

Thanks. I did find it in the downloaded directory. Just picked up a Diamond RH77CA to go with it-VHF was a little weak with the stock antenna. It did make a bit of an improvement. Now I am trying to find what I remember to be called SPEN-1. This I did not find in the directory. I found something called StateCom, not sure if this is the same thing. Have to say I really did not know if I was going to have buyers remorse on this SDS, but I am very happy with it. Nicest scanner I have ever owned by a longshot. 3 things I wish it had, built in GPS, Bluetooth, and included Virtual Control software.

154.680 is SPEN 1,StateCom are channels on the NJSP/NJICS system for interagency. StateCom 2 North is used for events at MetLife Stadium which can be interesting to listen to at times.
