DATE: May 30, 2010

On May 30, 2010 at 1:46 P.M. the Larimer County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a person fell into the Cache la Poudre River and cannot be located. The subject was last seen in the area of Picnic Rock, West Highway 14 around mile marker 119.

The subject was tubing down the Poudre River with three other individuals and was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident. The subject is described as a 25 year old African American male from Indiana. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue and brown swim trunks.

Larimer County Dive Team, Poudre Fire Authority and Larimer County Search and Rescue along with Larimer County Sheriff's Deputies immediately responded to the area and began a search. Crews have searched the river down to Watson Lake at this time.

The Poudre River is running high and swift due to the melting show from the recent warm weather. River enthusiasts are encourage to use caution at this time of the year.

The search will continue until dark.

Hope they find him, but if might be a month before he might even appear with as hard as the river is running right now. As of this morning the river was running over 2500 cubic feet a second, which is way above the historical average for the river.

Update from LCSO PIO

SUBJECT: Update on Missing Man in the Poudre River

DATE: May 31, 2010

The Larimer County Emergency Services, Search and Rescue and the Dive Team are resuming the search today for the Indiana man who fell into the Poudre River while tubing. The search crews plan to spread out along the Poudre River between Picnic Rock and Shields Street in Fort Collins. Approximately 40 search personnel and a couple of search and rescue dogs will be on scene today.

The family of the missing man has provided information and a photograph. He is identified as Brandon Bowie, age 25, from Gary, Indiana. He was in Fort Collins visiting friends. Mr. Bowie is described as being 6'2", 180 lbs., with brown eyes, a shaved head, a goatee and mustache. Mr. Bowie was wearing a white t-shirt, white swimming trunks with blue and brown stripes and brown TVO type shoes.

The tubing incident occurred approximately 1,000 feet west of the Picnic Rock area. Mr. Bowie was tubing behind a friend when they both hit a rough area of the Poudre River. The turbulence caused both of their tubes to flip over. The friend was able to grab onto some bushes and make it to shore. Mr. Bowie and his blue and white tube are still missing.

Larimer County Emergency Services stated the Poudre River is running high and is dangerous in many areas. Debris, foliage and poor water visibility are hampering search efforts.

The family and friends of Brandon Bowie have asked that everyone remember Brandon in their prayers.

There is no further information at this time.
