CAP reporting they have aircraft and ground teams in the search area, along with county SAR teams and two military helicopters from Ft Carson also assisting in the general area where the plane was lost from radar last night.

SAR units calling the aircraft a twin-engine, possibly pressurized, last known at 14,600 feet.

While running Pro96com I ran across TG 2744 with CAP traffic, I've been logging this one for a while

Heard traffic from Blue Mesa 135, Blue Mesa 7.

Think it was referred to as "CH 8" I may be wrong.

That's correct 2744 is also CAP.

Discussing 60 knot winds aloft in the search area now and the F-16's will be enroute at 1300hrs as previously posted using an infared overhead heat seeking equiptment which they have.

From: KRDO

WALSENBURG - A small twin engine plane with two people on board on a flight from Canada to Santa Fe has gone missing in the Whisky Pass area of Colorado.

According to the Colorado Civil Air Patrol the plane disappeared from radar and has not yet been located.

A number of ground and air crews are searching for the plane.

Aircraft from Fort Carson, Buckley Air National Guard, Kirtland AFB New Mexico and the Colorado Civil Air Patrol have not yet found any sign of the Twin engine Baaron.

There also dozens of ground search crews staging at the Walsenburg Airport including crews from El Paso, Custer and Las Animas Counties.

High winds in the area are hampering both air and ground search efforts.

Sounds like they may have located the crash site, sharing coordinates now.

Confirmed Army Blackhawk has located the crash site.

Rescue personnel believe the crash site is approximately 1/2 mile off an access road at approximately 11,500 feet. They estimate they will reach the site by nightfall using ground transport and hiking.

Must be someone important on that plane, the CAP does not normally use F-16's for such a search do they? I've always heard them in private planes, or helicopters.

I believe this is an Air National Guard weekend...might be some guardsmen needing flight hours.

I am still confused. Where the f-16's used instead of CAP aircraft or used with them? I'm sorry something just does not add up, normally the CAP will launch a few of their own aircraft. But The used for The ANG says to me something important was on that flight. does anyone know out there if they f-16 where used in conjunction with the CAP aircraft or instead of?

SAN LUIS, Colo. - Weather conditions are so bad in Southwest Colorado, rescue crews had to suspend efforts to reach the site of a presumably deadly plane crash on Monday.

Costilla County sheriff's officials say wreckage of the Beechcraft Baron, which was registered to a party in Canada, was spotted from the air Sunday. But weather kept crews from reaching the site, which is on a steep, snow-covered slope at roughly 11,000 feet.

Two people are presumed dead in the crash.

Sheriff's officials say the plane landed in Pueblo on Saturday to refuel before heading to Santa Fe, N.M.

The Federal Aviation Administration alerted sheriff's officials after losing contact with the plane around 10 p.m. Saturday.

"Especially during this time of year, people are trying to be with families and what you have now, but unfortunately, these incidents happen," Ken Torres, a Las Animas County commissioner, told our partners at KOAA-TV.

It's unknown what caused the crash.

The victims' identities weren't being released until their families could be notified.

If the CAP flew F-16's then every wanna-be pilot out there would join in hopes of being able to fly one some day.
Why use F-16's to search? Same reason we see them fly over sporting events. Real world practical exercises. Doesn't have to be a dignitary or VIP to get extra help. Maybe they offered their help due to the time of year. If there were survivors, they would have a much shorter window to be rescued due to the weather and conditions, so why not get all the help you can?
