Back in the day some of the most entertaining traffic I found on HF were the Mississippi River tugboat captains on the HF simplex SSB allocations, 4 and 5 MHz bands if memory serves. They were really fascinating to listen to once you got past the amazing regional accents. Does anyone know if this traffic is still present and could anyone suggest some active frequencies? Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, no. The Coast Guard no longer requires the vessels to monitor HF on the Western Rivers. Especially now with DSC capable VHF radios.
