Which tablet are you using? Does the tablet have a separate power jack, to supply both units power? Are you feeding your data to one of the databases?

Samsung tab a 8" I use avare pro but there is one app were you can feed to a database or keep your own Apps4Av this is the page it hooks through an on the go adapter to the USB power port
