Has anyone tried one of those mobile antenna mounts that slip over the window in your car and let you get your rubber ducky antenna outside? What kind of job do they do? Are they worth considering? I'm using a Pro-95 and looking for an easy way to get a outside antenna for ocassion road trips. I'm considering something like the Opek AM801 or MFJ-310.

I have used those several times, they seem to work about as well as the rubber duck would . I have also used them for operating amateur radio gear while mobile and have had good results with them as well. It all comes down to the quality of antenna you have mounted on it. If you have the factory rubber duck on it then you basically have a lossy antenna and you will be able to pick up signal on the coax too, so that may improve your VHF-LO reception but for 800MHz you will want to actually use a quality antenna that is actually resonant on the bands you want to hear.
