The City of Mobile Motorola system is possibly going to switch to the county EDACS system to establish interoperability between all agencies in the county. I think it really bites because I like to Motorola sound quality and equipment. Just wondering what others thoughts are on the subject? This is suppose to occur in the next 2 years. No definite date yet.

Should not be too bad an issue unless Mobile County switches to an EDACS ProVoice digital.. then it would really suck..

I think everyone is going to have different opinions. I think it will be an advantage to switch due to the size and layout of the county EDACS system. If they are called outside of their jurisdiction, they will be able to communicate with other agencies on the EDACS system. I don't think this is the most cost efficient answer. Seems I read some info that there are some patch talk groups for interoperability between the two systems. I have never heards any traffic on these talkgroups though.

FYI: The interoperability channels are the mutual aid channels on the EDACS and Motorola systems. Mutual aid channels are in nearly every radio on the system. I don't know if there is also a VHF patch frequency though.
9 out of 10 times if there are agencies that are on VHF or UHF that have to interop with the 800 agencies,.. there will iether be a patch set up,.. even if its just a temp one,.. or the agencies on 800 will still have VHF/UHF freqs liscensed to specifically talk to the users of that band.... Example.... Oktibbeha County in MS,.. its primary usage is on the Mississippi State University EDACS TRS,... but has again renewed thier liscenses for thier VHF Lo Band Repeaters... especailly Statewide Lo Band, speciffically for interopping with MHP, and other Counties still on Lo Band.
