This afternoon I noticed not only the L units operating on rt50 around the Bay Bridge, but also SOD units reporting to Mobile Command. In the span of about 2 minutes I overheard 6 or 7 vehicles being pulled over leading to a K9 search, vehicle impound, etc on multiple vehicles. They also seemed to have dug into their bag of undercover vehicles and had some new ones out and about.

The Mobile Command van was parked at the Eastbound Scale House just past the toll booths. Also, I noticed that the L units were operating slightly outside of their normal territory (pulling vehicles over East of the Kent Narrows bridge).

453.5750 was super busy around 1600 hrs with the SOD/L radio traffic @ the Bay Bridge, and the K and P units seemed busier than usual as well.

Any idea as to why they were out? Even around 1800 the police activity was higher than usual, especially with undercover vehicles.

For Starters

Holiday weekend, very high time to catch speeders, road rage specialists the intoxicated driving specialists and the seatbelt violators. Around the summer holidays is always a high crackdown time for police departments around the state to try and keep there arrive alive campaign going.

The mobile command post was there for 1.) Assistance of communications 2.) it housed commanders from SOD and L posts and 3.) it showed the State Taxpayers that the money they threw away on the unit is being put to good use.

I know that the Mobile Command Post was at the Bay Bridge a few months ago conducting truck inspections for about one weeks time. I guess with the increased accidents with big trucks they could be conducting another surge operation at the scales.
