    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good afternoon all, I am looking to add my bct15x to my car and need to drill another hole in my roof. I already have another antenna in my car that I use for GMRS which I do transmit and receive on. How far away would this other antenna need to be so there is no interference. The new one I want to put up is a tri band antenna.

And how much power is it putting out?

There's a lot of variables, and there is no rule that applies to every installation. Giving us some more info, like actual power output, antenna gain, type of vehicle, location on the vehicle, etc. would get you better responses.

The best answer is as far away as you can practically do so. A car does not often offer enough antenna room to avoid issues so you are best off to minimize it the best you can.

The spacing needs depend on the bands the antennas will be using. I try and keep similar band antennas at least 2 wavelengths apart, which is usually not practical at VHF but doable at UHF and 700-900Mhz. 2 wavelength spacing at VHF is about 12ft and at UHF its about 4ft.

If you have a 1/4 wave VHF and 1/4 wave UHF antenna near each other the VHF antenna will not be affected much by the UHF antenna and if the two antennas are more than 2ft apart there will be a little pattern distortion on the UHF antenna. At 700-900MHz there will be even less problems.

Im using a 1/4 wave uhf fir my transmit and the antenna i want to put up to scan would be a Tram 8079 Tri Band NMO High Gain Antenna VHF 150-170 MHz + UHF 440-520 MHz + UHF 800-960 MHz
