• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was recently looking at M/A-Com’s website and ran across the jaguar 725m I like the setup of the control head. The thing is that I can not find any m7100ip radios with the same control head setup why is that.

Are you looking at a Scan or System control head? The control head of a 725M is the same as an M7100.

I have downloaded the PDF information for the 725m & the m7100 and there is a visible diffrences between the pictured radios. The picture of the m7100 has a 4 button key pad & the 725m has a full key pad.

The 725M has been replaced by the M7100. Both radios are availiable in the Scan (4 Button keypad) and System (15 button keypad) models. If you are buying new, go with the M7100 as it is significantly smaller. The 725 radio chassis is huge. (bigger than the orion) while the 7100 is smaller. The 725 was only offered in 800MHz, However the High power VHF M7100 uses the same size chassis as the 725M uses.

just to add something screwy in there, you can use Orion control heads on M-RK enhanced vehicular chargers, and all functions/display will switch over to the remote control head.. ;)

The difference is simply the number of buttons. All buttons are programmable so you can set them up to do just about anything you want.

The Orion Control Head can also be used on the enhanced vehicle adapters with P7100 and 700P radios.

I take it the only real difference between Scan (4 Button keypad) and System (15 button keypad) is one has more buttons. I’m trying to figure out all the info I can regarding the difference between the two.

One more thing is there a way to remote mount a system control head?

the only thing I found that the sys head can do that the scan cannot is when you press ind (factory programmed) it will give you a list of the last 10 lids that have talked on that grp and a elapsed time that the lid talked on that group.(example: lid 4022 grp then hit menu and it will give a time of 0:21:24) (that means lid 4022 transmitted 21 soemthing oddd seconds) if you hit the scroll button it will go to the next 9, when the radio turns off it loses this info, this also workd on lpe 200 and 7100 sys portables, other than that all the buttons are prgrammable.

The 4 button "scan" control head will do the same thing provided that you program one of the buttons to be the "ind" or individual call button.

The 15 button "system" head will allow you to do DTMF dialing, dial phone numbers on telephone interconnect, and dial individual calls to radios not in your individual call list. You can do all of the listed functions with a 4 button "scan" control head, but you have to do them from a pre-stored list, you can not do them on the fly.

The individual button will allow you to do Individual but will not give you the history of the last 10 ids on your group. (scan vs. system)

Earlier in the post it is mentioned about connecting a M-RK and 700P to an Orion head for mobile use. Seeing that the LPE200 was in between these models does anyone know if this can in fact be done for the LPE200?
Thanks.

As far as I know they never wrote the radio code for the LPE 200 portable to work with the Orion control head. The only radios that support the Orion head to work with the enhanced charger is the MRK, Jaguar 700p, P7100, and the P7200 radios.

The control head can be used on any enhanced charger. Keep in mind the control head does have to be programmed for full functionality.
