If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can someone tell me what I would need in order to use two Kenwood mobile radios for a repeater, I have a TK 8180 and a TK 863. What would be needed to use these two as a mobile repeater?
Thanks

You need to buy a repeater controller or build one. If you intend to have both radios on the same band you need a duplexer.

A controller would be ideal, however you can use the external interfaces on both radios to create the link without an external controller.
The 8180 has all the pins you need on the rear DB25 connector.
For the 863, you'll need the KCT-19 auxiliary cable.
Some of the I/O pins on both radios will need to be configured to provide the necessary inputs and outputs. You'll likely have to do some massaging of the audio levels to get it sounding the way you want.

And as ND5Y said, you will absolutely need to have a duplexer to make this work. Simply having them on separate antennas will not supply enough isolation in a mobile application for it to work.
