mobile scanner antenna for mot smartzone type II

Hoping someone who knows a lot about scanners and antennas can give me a hand here.

Ive got a Radio Shack Pro-2096 scanner. Im using it to pick up digital and analog signals, moto and edacs. Mainly a moto type2 snartzone on 140-150mhz freq's.

i already own a 22" rs glassmount scanner antenna (rs part# 20-011) (not installed yet)

and im considering buying the KS3 http://www.durhamradio.com/s/product.php?productid=45456&cat=1836&page=1

if i use the rs one its gonna have to be mounted at about a 45 degree angle flush with my rear window.

the ks3 would be mounted at 90 degrees right on the trunk.

im not sure what would work better? any ideas?

also, does anyone know how it would affect performance if i were to cut the RS one from 22" down to 12-14"?

For receive only, it's not going to make a big difference. However glass mount antennas usually don't perform as well as others.

As GreatLakes said, a through the glass antenna isn't much good and the length is not really critical for receiving. But just for your info.,
12"-14" will be best around 200MHz.
22" is best around 125MHZ
20" is best around 140MHz
18" is best around 150MHz

I have the same antenna but paid less than $15 for it and works well in metro area.

I bought the Valor PIMM for universal (it is virtually the same antenna) and it was only $11 and it works great for my mobile applications.
