Mobile scanner in Michigan

I know one can't have a mobile scanner in Mi. What is the legal definition of a mobile scanner. Is just a scanner in the car, like the mobile BC796D.

You're mistaken. You are allowed to have a mobile scanner in a car, but you must have a scanner permit, easily obtainable from MSP. Somebody around here must have the link for the .pdf file.

Concerning portables, it's been tried and proven in the courts that the law does not apply to portable scanners, as you are not equipping the vehicle itself, as long as you dont have it hooked up to an external antenna or something like a cigarette lighter plug.

But, it probably wouldn't be good to try and test this, as you would still most likely have your scanner confiscated or "destroyed" before the court hearing. I'd suggest just get the permit.

Also, if you have a ham license, that works just as good as the permit, although many police do not think so.

Boiiom line mobile is considered in ones vehicle as opposed to one having possesion of a handheld scanner not inside the mobile vehicle.
