mobile trunk tracking scanner with alpha display?

I'd like to hear recommendations/comments on scanners for permanently installed mobile use that can track motorola ASTRO 800 trunked systems. Prefer a scanner that has an alphanumeric display that allows channel labels.

As of right now there are no mobiles that can do astro digital. Radio Shack is working on a mobile for release late 2004, early 2005. Uniden has a base station that could possibly be used mobile, the BC796-D. Radio Shack is releaseing a base model for this fall, which if 12 v, can be used mobile,... both RS, and Uniden have portables but not designed for permanent mobile mounting.

FYI, I have two 796D's permanantly mounted in my truck (it's heck living in a state that has so many digital systems!). They come with all of the necessary mounting hardware for mobile installs, including both hard-wire and cigarette lighter DC adapters.

Prior to the 2nd 796D, I had one 796 and one 785 mounted in my truck. They stayed in my truck year-round, no problems at all.

I have a 250D that I leave in my truck sometimes, but it goes back and forth between my house and my truck.

To the original poster, look at the Uniden line of products, or if you can wait a few months, we can see what the new RS mobile is going to be like!
