• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

I got this off the SE Michigan Red Cross website, wanted to pass it along in case anyone was interested:

American Red Cross Seeks Additional
Volunteers for Friday’s Disaster Readiness
Exercise in Southwest Detroit

WHO: The American Red Cross is recruiting additional volunteers to participate in Friday’s disaster readiness exercise in southwest Detroit. Southeast Michigan residents can participate as evacuees or decontamination volunteers. Currently, more than 300 volunteers have registered to participate and at least 500 are needed. One hundred-fifty volunteers will reside in the shelter and no additional shelter volunteers are needed for this activity.

WHAT: The Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross, in conjunction with the City of Detroit Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and other agencies, will be conducting a two-day disaster readiness exercise on September 8-9, 2006. The role of the Red Cross will be to work with the City of Detroit and be the lead agency in charge of shelter operations.

WHEN/WHERE: The disaster readiness exercise will begin with volunteer registration and training at Western International High School at 1500 Scotten Street in southwest Detroit. From there, volunteers will be transported to Cass Technical High School on 2501 Second Avenue, which will serve as the shelter for the greater portion of the exercise. Orientation, snacks and a dinner will be provided. To register, call (313) 494-2863 or visit www.semredcross.org. Residents interested in volunteering can also register the day of the event.

WHY: The purpose of this disaster exercise is to practice the mobilization, transportation and sheltering of city residents during a major emergency situation. The planned scenario is a dirty bomb and will test the readiness and response of both city residents and emergency response agencies.
