What mode should I use when programming the ISR Radios into the scanner? Is there much activity on bases with the radios? Also, I had heard the Civil Air Patrol was using them now -- anyone heard them on?

Thanks in advance!

ISR Radios are really FRS radios with the frequencies changed. Other than the retuning, they're just FRS units. So, yes, like FRS, they're narrow FM.

Narrow FM. I noticed the local CAP was using Icom 4008Ms at an event and found their freq right away using a Yaesu VX-3.

What was the freq if i might ask? The usual 148.15? or 148.125? and in what mode? Just curious as the CAP is in transition here in TN as well.

In my experience, the only usage I found was Civil Air Patrol at an airshow.

I was hoping to find some usage at the MCAS Miramar airshow, but it seems like rental radios rule the day.

The CAP does use their 148.150 and 148.125 simplex freqs, or repeater freqs, depending on if your Wing has started the migration to the new P25 repeater pairs.

As far as I know, 148.150 and 148.125 will still be in their radios.

And yes, ISR Radio is Narrow FM, ICOM IC-4008's retuned for 397 to 400 MHz.

They do have the 38 CTCSS "subchannels" still available as well. Hopefully we can expect to see more usage of these radios not only stateside but also for overseas military operations. The idea of giving every person in a unit a short range (500mW) radio is a great idea, and frees up FRS frequencies, especially in parts of the world where the frequencies for FRS are used by other services.
