I just bought the bc23a from Amazon and it still has the annoying auto off feature. Just wanted to update this thread. X1XD's bypass worked perfectly. Thanks

Modifying The Uniden BC23A Speaker ( Auto Power Off Disable )

Do this MOD at your own risk....

1. Remove the four screws securing the rear housing.
2. Remove the three screws securing the PCB
3. Remove the PCB and orient solder side up.
4. Attach 10k resistor.

Auto Power OFF will be disabled... Amplifier is always ON.
I just performed mod and it works great!! Thanks so much for doing the research. For those who are having trouble getting mod to work, check your soldering and I bet you'll find the problem

It's a 10K resistor. If it doesn't work, you installed the resistor in the wrong place. You have to look very closely at the photo to determine the correct solder pads for the resistor. I did two of them. I did some tests and found that the noise blanker does not increase distortion with simulcast issues. Since my speakers are mounted inside the dashboard of my vehicle and are difficult to access, I hardwired the noise blanker on and replaced the volume control with resistors after doing level tests. That will remove the possibility of a noisy volume control or intermittent switch.
