Mohave County Office of Emergency Management has a repeater net on what they call the "WAX" network designed for various public safety agencies, primarily fire to utilize for mutual aid purposes. This morning at about 1025 a check in was conducted with 18 entities called and only five answered. I suspect that most of those that did not answer just keep the volume turned all the way down in their dispatch center just like the Kingman 911 dispatch center does. Anyway it was the first time that I have heard traffic on it and for those that wish to monitor it the repeater frequency of 154.355 is used.

And for a littel but iof trivia - why is is called "WAX"?

Back in the late 70's I was a paid Eng/EMT at Bullhead City Fire, back in the days when we were a combination department. The paid staff dispatched as well as engineered the equipment.

"WAX" was the letters of the callsigns for most of the base stations in Mohave County at the time ... hence it was called "WAX". (BCFD was WAX572)

Most the departments like mine don't have a dedicated radio for the wax net. Generally the dispatchers will not participate in the "net", unless that dispatch center is called. This is mostly for the stations them self's. This is a fairly new thing that the Mohave County Emergency Management is doing, that's why there was not that many check-ins yesterday. However it is a monthly check in the next date the will happen is Sept 5th.

As for not hearing much traffic on the "WAX" repeater there really is no need, anymore. The Mohave County Fire Chiefs Association owns and operates this repeater system. The is a repeater in the Hualapai mountains and one on Christmas Tree Pass in Laughlin Nevada. Back in the day it was used a lot. Now days all but a very small hand full of departments have a repeater of their own. You will hear Pinon Pines fire department on there more than anyone. Pinon Pines repeater will not cover south 93 very well, and they respond all the way to the Burro Creek bridge.

Hope this helps with any questions that might arise.
