How far is the casino radio system able to transmit? Meaning would one be able to listen to the system in Norwich? I don't know anything regarding DMR systems so this is new territory for me.

Most DMR systems are designed to meet the customer needs.
With that said if its just for a casino they are probably have it built for in building coverage and not wide area coverage. Lots of DMR systems are like that.

If you were south of 82 and west by Walmart, I'd say you stood decent chance (going off vague memories of topology of the area). If you were up by White Plains Rd or north of 169 I don't think you would stand a chance.

It has very little to do with DMR, but it has more to do with RF principles. RF doesn't go too well thru physical contours of the earth at these frequencies, so it wouldn't be the DMR preventing you from hearing it - it would be physics. You need either line of sight, or height to help you hear in those instances.

I lose the Mohegan system as soon as I come up the Boulevard leaving Valet and taking the right onto Rt.2. I mean its like within 1/4 mile of the property, if that. And I'm using a very sensitive Whistler TRX-1 with a RS 800 antenna. For comparason from that exact location on the exact radio and antenna, I can hear the Suffolk County 800 Smartnet and P25 systems as well as the RI Riscon P25 system. It has nothing to do with it just being a DMR system in general. They just dont use a lot of power and it is just designed to be used on the immediate property. In retrospect, I can hear some DMR systems from NYC and New London County from my location.

@Rt169Radio and that's with favorable topography. So if @pro106import is losing it over by Shantok (sp?...that is that little puddle down there by the Thames, right?), I can't imagine that system will go very far up into Norwich at all.

The system coverage is for the Reservation including the Casino. The Casino site covers little more that that complex. The other two Sites have coverage outside the Casino up by the Community Center (Crow Hill Rd) and over the hill to the south to the Tribal property on Fort Hill Rd off Rt 32. The two outside sites often have MTPD outside TG & FD traffic. They may also have the various maintenance and shipping groups.

Foxwoods has a bit better coverage with their UHF NXDN system. 3 of the sites are good for 3-5 mile radius but the Wintechog Hill site is goog for up to 10 miles away. Again, not much casino traffic on that site.

Thanks for the info everyone! It was very helpful in deciding whether or not to get the DMR upgrade for the Uniden BCD996P2 (y)

You can monitor the CC frequency and see if the digital sound is steady and clear. It changes occasionally and I don't recall which it was last time I monitored, one of the 939MHz channel I believe.

Sometimes a little better depending on "how the wind blows". Trust me, I have to head down Route 2 and up Route 2 certain days of the week. ;)

I cannot hear them in my Fire Station on the other side of town ... the same town Mohegan Sun is in. I can barely hear their low band Fire Dispatch either. So, the range is not that far.
