If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is the Unication G5 capable of monitoring both 800 Trunked & VHF/UHF at the same time yet? Or are users still restricted to listening to either 800 or V/U with the G5?

This is still an ideal solution for monitoring both an 800 Trunked & VHF dispatch for me, allowing me to have one pager instead of two ... but last I looked I could monitor to one or the other, not both.

The G5's internal radio is either VHF or UHF, not both UHF and VHF, so it would be more than just a firmware upgrade to allow that to happen.

You can monitor VHF and 700/800 or UHF and 700/800 depending on your G5 flavor. But if you are asking if you can monitor trunking and conventional on the same scan list, that is not yet available.

The current firmware can either monitor a trunked system, or it can scan across conventional systems. It cannot do both at the same time (regardless of band).

I am aware the unit is either 800/V or 800/U. I keep looking at the 800/V unit to monitor 800/V, but since it can still only do 800 Trunked or V Conventional, not both in the same scan list, it still can't do what I need it to do.

Thanks.

Last guidance from Unication is that the firmware upgrade to allow scanning is due sometime in May. I guess  that means you will be able to scan 700/800 trunked and VHF conventional. I hope so for my G5. Can a beta tester confirm?

The beta firmware cannot scan between conventional and trunking.

Thanks for the confirmation. That is actually too bad. I would have liked to scan my local trunked system and PA's VHF STARNet local freqs on my G5 at the same time. But, since I have two Unications it won't present a problem for me.
